The Thomistic Institute is a scientific institution of the Polish Province of Dominicans, founded in 1958 on the initiative of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. The Thomistic Institute operates in several areas.

The basic area of activity of the Institute is conducting, animating and promoting research, editorial and translation works related to the work and thought of St. Thomas Aquinas. This concerns both projects concerning the history of his work and attempts to confront Thomas’s proposal with contemporary philosophy and theology. In order to achieve this goal, the Thomistic Institute: organizes seminars and discussion meetings, conducts publishing projects and develops a specialist library. In connection with the care for the heritage of St. Thomas’ thought, the Thomistic Institute also conducts studies and publishes works devoted to the Polish and European Middle Ages.

Another area of the Institute’s activity is educational activity. Its aim is to convey knowledge about the heritage of Christian theology and philosophy, with particular emphasis on the work of St. Thomas Aquinas. The following initiatives are implemented within this activity:

Studium Dominicanum, aimed at people who want to systematically deepen their knowledge of Christian theology and philosophy;

Specialization: “The Theology of St. Thomas Aquinas”, conducted within the framework of bachelor’s and doctoral studies organized by the Catholic Academy in Warsaw;

Open lectures devoted to selected theological and social problems.

Finally, the Institute is engaged in expert activities.
