Our goal
Ever since the founding of the order, studies have been treated as one of the essential components of the Dominican identity.
Our main concern is to ensure the quality of the studies of the Dominican brothers.
Our values
Read more about what we are doing. Get to know us better and the values that accompany us in our activities:
STUDY - help in preaching
“Studying is not the purpose of the Order, but it is most necessary for that purpose which is to preach and work for the salvation of souls, because without study we can do neither of these things.”
Humbert of Romans
The Dream of Thomas Aquinas
“Dominic and Thomas shared the same ideal. Thomas’s dedication to study was in no way a neglect of preaching; he pursued the same goal as Dominic: salvation through preaching, which is shaped by a life of prayer, contemplation, study, and apostolic community.”
Damian Byrne OP, Letter to the Order of May 25, 1991
Studies and community
“Common life is also the context for our studies. First of all, because no one can speak of God’s love unless he finds this love incarnate. Second, no one can be a theologian alone […] A complete theology must always be the fruit of a communal effort.”
Chapter in Oakland (1989)
Our motto is truth
“We will never discover truth if we are satisfied with what we have already discovered. The writers who have gone before us are not our masters, only our guides. Truth is open to everyone. It has never become the exclusive property of any one person.”
Gilbert of Tournai
Our mission
“You, Dominicans, have the mission of proclaiming that our God is alive […] The prophetic charism in your Order has received the special seal of theology […] Be faithful to this mission of theology and wisdom in your Order, regardless of the form to which you are called to carry out this mission, academic or pastoral”
John Paul II to the General Chapter in Rome (1983)
